Aims
The aim of our children’s work within Oakwood is to first build
strong biblical foundations within each child whatever the age, and to
build on that to encourage each child to be confident enough in their
faith to live their lives accordingly.
We mainly use Scripture Union material; however the leaders of the
groups have the freedom to use other appropriate material if they wish
to cover a topic in a particular way. This material will be
approved by the children’s work leader before use.
We also believe that the children are part of “today’s” church and so
regular participation in church services is valued and encourage, with
some services throughout the year handed over to the children to
participate and lead.
Oakwood has a children’s work policy and
all the leaders/helpers are CRB checked.
Groups
Little
Acorns Age 3 to 6 years
We encourage our “Little Acorns” to learn more about the bible in a
fun interactive way. This will include bible stories, simple drama’s,
paintings, craft and much more.
Special
Branch Age 7 to 11 years
For this older group, we aim to build on what has already been learnt
and to encourage the children to devolp their personal faith and
investigate subjects from the bible for themselves. This is also done
with a fun emphasises and interaction through games, paintings, craft,
drama etc
“The
Crew” age 11 to 14 years
The Crew as well as exploring the bible and its relevance today
through studies (some of which they plan themselves) they are also
encourage to take a more active part in church life. This can include
practical tasks that help the church run to participating in the service
by playing in the worship band, drama, readings etc.
On the last Sunday morning of each month we run a Rock Solid Club for
7-14 years. This club looks at specific subjects that the children may
encounter in their day to day life. As well as having a serious point to
make, there is also time for some crazy games and craft activities.
